I agree that this type of fraud is disturbing and that we should take all reasonable action to protect our accounts.

With that said, I believe that the Brokerage would be on the hook for any loss to the consumer. Beyond that federal insurance should cover you against this type of Fraud. I have 2 factor identification when logging and get notifications when a transfer is taking place. I am not overly concerned about the safety of my funds at Fidelity.

Yesterday we set up my wife's Schwab account to link to outside checking. She can't use it for 3 business days. During the setup they sent 3 separate text msg verification codes to the number on file. I think it would be fairly hard to create a fraudulent link.
