It seems no-one wants to anwer my question. Why the run-up to $36-$37 and then back down again to $33+. Stephen, if you are right and cpq is dead money due to the dec deal then why did it run up two weeks ago? The dec deal was a much the dec deal 4 weeks ago as it was 3 weeks ago as it was 2 weeks ago as it is now. As far as the dec deal goes nothing has changed! But the stock price changed!! Big time - from 30 to 37 back down to 33.5. That all happended after the dec deal. The dec deal does not explain the price movement one iota.

stephen;

I agree with you. CPQ is dead money for awhile. Dead money because CPQ will have to face at least one quarter influenced by write downs of plant, equipment and employee severance packages. The skill of the CPQ management and how they account for these losses will determine the impact on EPS and subsequently on the price of the stock. I see no reason for this issue to move above 35 until the dust settles. IMHO I think we will stick closer to 32.5 to 35 assuming the overall market stays the same. As a point of reference, visit the NN thread and view the impact on earnings from the purchase of UB.

Unfortunately, I just purchased 1K at 34.7 without selling CC and shorted 10 March 35 puts at 1.625 prior to my realization.

Ha ! Ha!
Let me tell you every stock you bought is manipulated. Statically, without any news (bad or good), the stock will be neutral, no up or down. Thinking about CPQ's merger with DEC, if
most people , people like you and me, think it is positive, the analysts are no more smarter or stupid than any of us, then the stock should move up , but it did not. That means someone is
trying to push down the stock on purpose for some reason, thinking about the big volume
traded and the stock price stood still in the past two and half weeks. Is this manipulation ?

You may also review the intraday charts in the past two and half weeks, you will find whenever the stock is ready to shoot up, it always been someone sold it down !!!! And in the past couple of trading days, the stock always shoot up early in the morning, and got shut
down at the end!!!! So , the stock price just stood still !!!

Stephen- You are truly a voice of reason against alot of noise here lately......

Here are some other reasons the street is shying away from CPQ.

1. I don't think the split was viewed as a positive. Too many shares, too close to the last split etc.

2. The "stuffing the channel" rumor refuses to die. Although this was proved false last month, it continues to be the perception.

3. The BTO program, which has always been mis-quoted, continues to be viewed as negative. The stock's just in a funk right now. What should concern everyone is not when it will rise but how much it will fall when this market decides to correct again.Anyone want to guess what will spur the next sell-off?
