Covington vs K6:

I just don't understand what Intel is thinking here. If you remove the L2 cache on the cartridge then the system will perform worst than a Pentium with an 512k cache on the motherboard. The reason the PII outperforms the K6 is due to the tightly coupled L2 cache that runs at half CPU clock speed.

Without the L2 cache the CPU must rely alot on the system memory. To get to the system memory the CPU must talk to the chipset to get the memory. Everytime you talk to the chipset you go through another layer that slows down the system. Remember the CPU is just 1 component of the whole system. Man this Castrated PII will be worst than the Winchip. I bet you Intel will rely on their marketing muscle to get stupid people buying these Castrated Covington.
