It is my IRA. I never got a really good explanation, but I'm pretty sure it's because they became aware that my country of residence for tax purposes is NZ. I'm still not sure if the restriction is from the NZ government or the US. I don't pay taxes now in the US. I had been back in NZ for many years before this restriction was placed on the IRA, but for most of that time I declared any US income, and paid taxes, in the US. US tax rates are significantly less than NZ, but now I must pay taxes in NZ on any income. The only reason I have US income is the Required Minimum Distribution from the IRA, which kicks in at 70 years, I think.
