I think the implications of ETEC are pretty clear for the entire semiconductor equipment sector. ETEC sees weakness in Japan and Korea while the stock climbs higher and will continue to do so.

World growth for chips and memory means greater world demand for semi-equip, especially DUV equipment. For what its worth, the semi-equip portion of my portfolio is 50% AMAT, 25% CYMI, and 25% DPMI.

People can never "understand why semi-equip stocks fall when earnings estimates are rising (yet some people see the signs of weakness) and they never understand why these stocks rise when earnings estimates are falling. Semi-equip stocks also tend to rise during the calendar year, peaking in the third quarter.

When I was 16 years old my broker suggested I buy AMAT when they were losing large amounts of money. I thought he was crazy but took a chance he might be right. Sure enough it was up from there. I've watched this same pattern over and over for a couple of decades. After a while you can almost smell it.
