About the only thing BAT can do is report the value of its stake in Kummerow on its books. In that regard, it increases the book value of BAT. But some companies don't even do that, particularly if the other company is not public. I mean, how do you place a value on a company that isn't making any money. The easiest way, is to let the market determine the value.

But this is an earnings driven market, and its stake in Kummerow does nothing to help its revenues or cash flow. To do this, BAT would have to sell its stake in Kummerow.

Think of BAT's relationship to Kummerow much like your relationship to BAT. As long as BAT does well you feel richer but it doesn't put any cash in your pocket until you sell.

Kummerow is not a subsidiary of BAT, and even if it were, I doubt the SEC would allow any up stream flow of cash into BAT.

BTW, hope you were not a buyer on the Kummerow news. I would be interested in knowing how that guy on Yahoo was drawn to the news.
