There is nothing about UTES that would be considered a hedge. It might help lower beta of a growth portfolio, but it still carries a .83 beta compared to the sector ETF XLU of .65. Gold is a good diversifier as well as Managed Futures and other commodities, Long/Short funds are market neutral. Look at CTA, KMLM, GLDM, EDGH, QLNEX, QMNNX, QDSNX.

These are funds I hold but due diligence is required.
