Pretty much doing a thirty four hr stretch without sleep - did not sleep on the plane

That’s a big mistake. The longer you go without sleep, the longer the jet lag will last. Way back when I did a lot of long distance air travel, I had a simple recipe. A mild sedative, a double Scotch, a window seat and a request to the flight attendant not to wake me for any unnecessary reason like meal service. On most flights I slept right through to the landing. Once at my destination I changed my watch to local time and did my best to not think about the time zone changes.
