New pickups used in DVD-RAM drive

Korea's Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd. has developed a DVD-RAM drive, model SDW-130, capable of storing up to 5.2G per disk. The drive has a read speed of 11.08Mbps, a transfer rate of 16.6Mbps bytes and a normal access time of 200ms.

The unit uses a one-line, two-laser optical pickup technology from Samsung, making it compatible with DVD and CD formats, including CD-R. The company also developed three core semiconductors for the drive, including a pulse creator, a playback signal processor and a frequency modulation/error detection/correct chip.

Minimum order requirements and FOB prices are negotiable. Delivery can usually be made within 60 days after receipt of a letter of credit.

Samsung Electronics can be contacted by fax at 82-2-5634554 or visit sec.co.kr.
