Papa John's falls as takeover speculation refuted

Papa John's ( PZZA) dropped 6.3% after takeover speculation on the pizza chain was refuted.

Papa John's ( PZZA) saw the majority of its 7% gain on Monday reversed as some takeover speculation was refuted. An article claiming that the pizza chain was the subject of another takeover effort was reported to be inaccurate on Monday.

The latest speculation on Papa John's ( PZZA) comes after Reuters reported last Tuesday that Apollo Global ( APO) withdrew a $64 a share takeover offer for the pizza chain.

Even without a sale, Papa John's ( PZZA) was defended by Seeking Alpha analyst Eric Novinson, who expects the pizza chain's stock to rise next year.

"With the Apollo buyout off the table, I still think that Papa John's stock price is likely to rise in 2026," Novinson wrote. "While its North American same-store sales may fall further in 2026, it still has positive traffic, and its international sales are growing."
