Just left the Dominican last night,, When departing they levy a $10 US cash per head departure tax.. The banks will not give you US money for travellers cheques denominated in US dollars,, they will only convert 1/3 of your pesos into US dollars,, they will not accept their own pesos or Cdn$ at the airport. Fortunately for my family and I , the tour operator accepted the travellers cheques. This is just one example of this love affair with the Yankee Dollar..
