The point Scotty was making is that gasoline direct injection and turbo induction boosting can raise pressure in the cylinders to the point where small amounts of raw gasoline can eventually blow past the piston rings and dilute the motor oil. With diesels it doesn't matter, as diesel is a lubricant, but gasoline is caustic to internal engine parts and if it dilutes the oil, it will shorten an engine's life span.

I still use the old dipstick test for oil changes. When it gets too dirty looking, I'll change it. Of course, some cars no longer give you an oil dipstick (or tranny). BMW, for one example. Pretty stupid, IMO..
