I can guess at their response. One is that the authorization does not necessarily mean they have repurchased any stock to date. Second, while a legit company would never admit to attempting a short squeeze (as this has questionable legality), a generic company would likely respond that based upon internal forecasts of future earnings, that investment in their stock is a good deal. It has little to do with current cash flows as long as a cash position is adequate to carry them until cash from operations is permanently positive (1999 under the optimists case??).
