laid off journalists

They probably ran the numbers. What kinds of ads could they sell? Are the suburbs contiguous? Are there enough stores that are potential advertisers? Do the big central city's media have suburban penetration? Could the hot micro-breweries or eateries buy enough ads (no)?

If I were a laid off journalist I'd find a job in another field, and if I had an insatiable urge to write, maybe start a Substack, realizing there are more than enough to keep a speed reader busy 50 hours a day, never mind trying to convert the readers to a paid sub.
