i retired at age 52 to care for my wife. i took substantially equal payments from my ira to handle annual expenses. this required projecting future inflation etc. the money in excess of requirements went right into the market in a taxable account. My reason for taking ss at 62 goes back to an earlier experience as well as need.. during the 60's employee's couild retire early without any discount penalties and pre ss. Rather than take early retirement they all worked to age 65. ( i expect the depression had a lot to do with it) Just about the majority of men in our office died within one to two years after retirement.
