I saw this:

Adoption, though, will take time. AiryString can fit into existing workflows, but to unlock its full potential, factories will apparently need specialized sewing equipment. That limits early use to design-led and performance-oriented

It does seem like a huge innovation, the first major one I know of since zippers were invented. Think semiconductors, with an innovation happening every thirty minutes, and relatively quick universal adoption. You can still get button fly pants and audio tubes, but few do.

It took a while for the zipper to get adopted, but they've been ubiquitous as long as I've been around.

That's the part I found Wow-worthy. There are probably other aspects.

I believe 60 minutes TV said Luxottica had a 95% market share.

They do the whole thing from raw materials to marketing to end customers.

essilorluxottica.com

Looks like their monopoly allowed in Italy... has their stock at a record high today.

I remember decades ago (35 yrs at least!) when wetsuits were very stiff, leaked at seams and zippers, etc... YKK was a huge advertised feature for better zippers that lasted longer on my O'Neil wetsuits.

IF I recall... YKK zippers were plastic and thus didn't corrode and gum up as easily as metal zippers so wetsuits would last longer not pulling them apart getting the zipper open and closed.
