Jobs was also rumored to be twisting the arms of the AIM partners to keep chips cheaper, in good supply, and out of the hands of cloners and third-party upgrade vendors.

One line in that article about Apple being third in retail revenue in January makes it less exciting--the line that mentions that "retail" also includes all mail order. Since tons of Macs are sold that way, it will bump up the retail numbers a great deal relative to the other vendors. Still, it was good news. I like the high margin business myself. I'd rather not be Micron or Packard Bell.

Two other notes--the 266 mhz minitower seems to be back in good supply in Berkeley and a poster on the MF board says that Apple is close to landing two big contracts with drug companies to equip the salesmen with MessagePad 2100s, an upgrade from the Newton 120s they use now.
