I just keep looking at the running capacity factors in China for coal fired generation now approaching 30% or less.

They will shut down the old plants which are inefficient and dirty and very slowly build super critical plants tp replace some of them but net net more potential generating capacity is going away.

Less coal consumption but there are all those big grid connections not doing anything. So what to do with them?

They are dropping in battery storage like mad at those locations.

A "no brainer".

Just like what Australia has been doing for years now as coal fired generation goes away forever at a rapid clip down under.
