furthermore many Confederates fought for their country and way of life just as honorably as their Union counterparts Nope. They reneged on their oath to protect and defend the Constitution that they took when they first became officers. That isn't honorable. Especially when your side loses. The lower ranks, who joined after succession, they are different. Like Dick Dowling. But the generals and many of the other ranking officers, were Union officers, first.

Duh Twaveluh, I love how you, after feigning ignorance over who the modern-day Confederates are, you immediately switch to praising Confederate "war heroes" for what they fought for. Let's face it, the Confederates were traitors. They didn't fight for their country because they had none. Instead, they fought for their way of life, which included preserving "the peculiar institution." Although that institution was already on its way out, it was unfortunately embedded within the culture and the economy of the South. To them, abolishing slavery was like ripping out a tumor with bare hands. Tenchusatsu P.S. - I don't expect you to understand what I just said, by the way.
