Correct. They viewed their loyalty as being to something else than where they swore their oath to.

It isn't particularly complicated, despite your attempts at obfuscation.

The fact of the matter is the Articles of Confederation included the right of succession. When that collapsed because it couldn't function, the Constitution rather pointedly didn't include that and some other rights, like nullification. That should be a clue. It isn't like they were unaware of those provisions, you know.

I grew up in SE Texas. Which included cotton plantations back in the day..With shrines to The Lost Cause, statues and monuments, sundown towns and the Klan. Honestly, I don't think you have more insight into the issues than I do.

Many did fight with honor and bravery. I mentioned Dick Dowling and his merry band of bartenders as an example for a reason. Handed the US Navy their biggest defeat by land based forces to date. But they were never commissioned officers in the US military.
