The original Lynley's self-obsession was part of the nuance around class, IMO.

I don't know your nationality, but I have noticed that even though the US is much more defined by class than Canada is, Americans tend to be not so good at noticing and interpreting it. Maybe it's because part of the American myth is that there are no classes in the US, that anyone can become President or at least rich regardless of their origins, which in reality is the exact opposite of the truth. My half-baked theory is that to maintain the myth, Americans tend to remain blind to the way class actually works.

(To be clear, my half-baked theory is sociological rather than pertaining to any particular individual.)
