janski,

This is an area where FC should excel-somebody has to sell it. Almost all of the radiology LANS I have reviewed have been ethernet, FDDI, or ATM.

If IBM is getting into the FC business, they should get together with Ancor, set up a meeting with the Mayo Clinic (right next to IBM's Rochester facility) and sell them on an FC LAN/SAN or at least a hybrid with FC attached storage. Failing that they should at least approach a Twin Cities HMO. Either way they need a system up and running that they can use as an example. Right now they have the world's largest flattest FC LAN and they are not benefitting from it from a PR perspective. We can expect to see other FC companies (especially non-public ones) crowing about every deal. Ancor needs a couple of "success stories" on the www site that show FC as a comprehensive solution. In this area medical LAN/SAN/WANS are going to be huge. The FCA knows this and that is why they are promoting FC now as a LAN solution.

All IMO,
George D.
