Um, birds are a reservoir for flu. One of the two main sources, the other is pigs. Influenza is a RNA virus, so it mutates readily. And it doesn't take much in the way of mutations for it to jump species because it happens regularly. Just because that particular flock can't infect humans, it doesn't mean it can't mutate to do so. Not to mention, any other birds they infect could do the same. And those birds won't be restricted to that particular flock.
