RE: "I wouldn't last an hour in such a boot camp."

I haven't seen the movie (dont have NFLX). Looking back, I am amazed I made it. Proud of it too. you'd be surprised what you can handle, especially when young. You'd probably do fine.

Job interviews used to ask some form of a question like "what are some of your proudest moments?" Mine were always, my kid, honorable discharge from the USMC, college degree. Mainly because I am surprised I did them...lol.

I did my boot camp at MCRD San Diego. The loneliest times were at night when you could see the car lights on the I-5....lol. So close to freedom...lol.

Re: Have you guys seen the netflix show 'Boots'?

I saw it, well a part of it. Too much Hollywood BS. Some of it was realistic, I initially thought I was going to see a movie that closely matched the real thing. Full Metal Jacket is the closest I've seen so far.

The pain was a reality, the fear was a reality, the beatings were a reality, and the punishment was a reality for us. It was fun! I would have done it again.

When I graduated I told my Sr. Drill Instructor he wasn't half as tough on me as my Dad and Sister Frances. He laughed like hell and said he liked the way I dealt with the physical punishment they dealt out.

I did my training at MRCD Parris Island, no civilization around us there. ... HA!

I graduated #2 out of PI, ticked me off, I thought I was #1. They shipped us up to Camp Lejeune for ITR (infantry training regiment) and I beat out the guy that was #1 at PI. I was #1 out of ITR.

I almost got killed in ITR during training. We were way out in the boondocks and I had to stand guard one night from midnight until 2 AM. We all were told to be alert, Marine Corps recon guys were doing their training and their objective was to kill us. The guy that relieved me got captured and killed. (Make believe kill.) You didn't want to be that guy, his capture put the whole platoon at risk.
