I think the challenge is that even though DDR prices have tripled. many of the fab are concerned about building too much capacity and therefore tanking prices when demand starts to weaken.

I have seen a few articles suggesting the fabs prefer to keep prices high by maintaining the shortage.

As a result they are cutting back on their cap ex budgets and pushing out the completion of fabs or starting new fabs.

It is hard to tell right now. Memory may become like the oil cartels where artificial shortages are created to keep prices high. Given that only a few companies can afford to build fabs for the next generation of chips it does make sense.
