The "typical" person

In my mind, someone working in the US sending money back home. That would be a regular customer, with a cellphone, but no bank account, or at least not on both ends. I haven't priced international wire transfers. WU might be cheaper than the local bank on small amounts, but neither is likely the cheapest possible.

convenience for the customer who has cash

Convenience is pricey.

WU even has an app for that.

westernunion.com
