Unfortunately CE's will not be the first sub-par (or pick a word) product that MS will push using its mighty marketeering.
This should be a well known fact by now.

[It begins: Is Microsoft coercing TV standard through TCI boxes?]

For anyone who read the NY Times the day before yesterday, there was an article concerning the dissatisfaction broadcasters & TV manufacturers were having with the proposed TCI-microsoft boxes. Seemingly the boxes will NOT be capable of high definition TV or interlacing. Only progressive scan without high definition. Supposedly this is a way for microsoft to help force the standard they want and favorable to computers (intel is smiling), as opposed to conventional TV's which are interlaced. CBS, according to the article, is up in arms because they planned on presenting HDTV in an interlaced mode and with the current boxes as arranged with microsoft, all you will get is SNOW. Sony and other TV manufacturers are also alarmed. The article ended saying that renegotiations may be in order.
