Rick, Here's some info from AMGN's just-filed 10-K: Human clinical testing of brain-derived neurotrophic factor ("BDNF"), is currently being conducted in collaboration with Regeneron Pharmaceuticals, Inc. ("Regeneron") (see "Joint Ventures and Business Relationships - Regeneron Pharmaceuticals, Inc."). A small, early stage clinical trial of BDNF investigating intrathecal administration for amyotrophic lateral sclerosis ("ALS" or Lou Gehrig's disease) is currently in progress. A Phase 3 clinical trial of BDNF with subcutaneous delivery for the treatment of ALS did not demonstrate clinical efficacy in the endpoints measured in patients with this disease. Regeneron continues to investigate BDNF in ALS patients on behalf of the collaboration with the Company. On behalf of the collaboration with the Company, Regeneron will undertake a number of small clinical studies with Neurotrophin-3 ("NT-3"). During 1997, Amgen announced the collaboration will not pursue additional trials of NT-3 in diabetic neuropathy or chemotherapy-induced neuropathy because initial results were not sufficiently promising.
