Yeah, but if I'm holding a CC late on opex day and its only worth pennies, I will close it out. AMD has a habit of swinging a few bucks near the close at times.

BTW, one other little wrinkle if you trade often is that settlement on a called CC takes one day longer than selling the underlying on Friday. The settled cash from the call will be on Tuesday morning, not Monday morning. So assuming the call is in the money and you are fine planning on getting called, there is actually a bit of a benefit to closing the call (assuming the premium is near zero) and then selling the stock. Same net outcome but one day quicker turn time if that is of interest to you.
