agreed, but then the bullet exits and lots of bits of the egg plus the shell goes out the back too.

Momentum is conserved. The centre of mass for the egg does not move much, nor does the bullet slow down much.

In the jfk case, the bullet must of slowed down a lot as his head moves backwards and to the right. I heard that shot came from the grassy knoll, and this was the pistol used.
