Sure, there is politics. But there is also butting heads over following Geneva Conventions. Which he apparently did. Not to mention, the tattoos. He was also loud and proud about his disdain for women and those of darker skin hue. Those of different sexuality orientations. Basically anyone who isn't like himself. There were lots of reasons he topped out as Major. Not the least of which, he seems to be incredibly dense.
