The best movies in a long while that I can recall were released last year (The Return and Conclave). Its really been a decade of "meh" movies.

Two recent great movies:

Godzilla Minus 1, a family recovering from the depths of WWII destruction, a redemption arc, and a very big monster. Pay attention to the recovery in Tokyo over the repeated scenes, the camaraderie, and her neck in the final frames of the movie. The thinly concealed suspicion by the mechanic while fixing the kamikaze plane. And feel the love of country as the pilot takes off for his final mission. And turn up the volume as Godzilla strides, never running.

KPop Demon Hunters, this is what an animated musical used to be like from Disney or Pixar. Great animation, better singing, and hilarious anime-inspired facial expression. It is big for a reason.
