NC is a very split state. The Old Timers are still pining for a segregated country. The many newcomers are largely Democrats, some "progressive" but I think many are "moderate". That is why Tillis said when he announced he won't run for the Senate in 2026 that NC is a tricky state for Republicans to win state-wide races even though the Republican legislature is narrowly veto proof with a Democratic governor and a Democratic AG. They have gerrymandered to state to bits. It is a true purple state that had a 7-7 Congressional split until the gerrymander made it 11-3. And the Rs push their majority to the hilt.
