This was small compared to theirs: The largest lobster ever officially recorded was an American lobster weighing 44 pounds, 6 ounces (20.15 kg), caught off the coast of Nova Scotia, Canada, in February 1977, according to Guinness World Records, measuring over 3 feet long and estimated to be a century old before being released back to the sea. While tales of even larger lobsters exist from colonial times, this 1977 specimen remains the benchmark for recorded catches.
