I must say that I can understand and even defend the people who double down on their beliefs when presented with strong evidence that contradicts it. It's probably not their fault.

Hundreds of thousands of years of evolution have shown that you have a survival advantage when you listen to the words of elders. When they say "Don't eat that plant, it's poison." You survive if you listen. If they say, "Don't go near that village, they'll kill you." You'll survive if you listen. If someone presents you with a story that is different than that, you're going to be skeptical, because being skeptical has helped you survive.

Eons of stuff like that helped make us who we are, and you can't just flip a switch and turn it off. It's part of many people's identity and DNA.

The political battles of this century are being fought by our near-lizard brains against the data behemoths we've worked tirelessly to build. It's no wonder there is constant conflict.
