You keep insisting that recognizing something as historically common is the same as endorsing it.

It isn’t.

Saying that governments, of all political stripes, have often responded to perceived security threats with overly broad measures is simply a factual observation.

It does not mean I think those measures were reasonable, justified, or desirable.

You’re treating a historical point as if it’s a political confession.

If I say that past governments censored newspapers, that doesn’t mean I want censorship today.

You’re arguing against a position I haven’t taken.

That may help the narrative you want to push, but it doesn’t make your logic any stronger.

You’re welcome to criticize real arguments.

Just stop inventing ones for me.
