Or you can patch around the hardware bug (if that's possible) and implement a software fix. The original Mac had most if not all of its toolbox implanted in ROM...a few years later, most of that was all patched around...so that almost none of the original toolbox code was being used. But yeah if its a fundamental processor hardware bug, those are hard to fix.
