Hatred of Jews, known as antisemitism, is considered the "oldest hatred," with roots tracing back to the ancient world and continuing for millennia.
The word "antisemitism" itself is a modern term that emerged in the 19th century, but the prejudice it describes has been a persistent historical phenomenon, evolving over time from religious persecution in Christian teachings to modern political and racial variants, and currently manifesting in the context of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and online misinformation.
Today, there is an alarming resurgence of antisemitism globally, including in the U.S. and other Western countries. Recent data from the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) indicates:
  • Nearly one in four Americans harbors extensive antisemitic beliefs.
  • In a reversal of past trends, younger generations (Millennials and Gen Z) are more likely than older generations to agree with anti-Jewish tropes.
  • A significant number of Americans, particularly younger ones, have limited knowledge about the Holocaust, and many agree with conspiracy theories or Holocaust distortion.

Organizations such as the Anti-Defamation League, the American Jewish Committee, and the Claims Conference actively monitor and fight this ongoing prejudice.

Old myths in a new era.

24% of Americans Harbor Extensive Antisemitic Prejudice
