In assuming my father is 94 and kicking. Very good chance I have that gene?

Assuming that were true and that there was a single gene responsible and, well a whole lot of things to gloss over to simplify things to a meaningless state, 50% at best could be attributed to that hypothetical gene.

Addictions though, are very deterministic as to genetics. With enough diligence, you can get addicted to most anything. However, there are those who will tell you "I remember the first time I did X. It was the best thing to ever happen to me". Those people hit the genetic jackpot. And are the least likely to be able to go clean. They are the most likely to be puffing on a cigarette through their tracheotomy stoma because cancer took the upper part.

As to the rest of your post, has anyone ever called you a mindless piece of shit?

Consider it done.
