Barry and thread, Article...Samsung, Intel Discuss Extending Technical Collaboration...

February 26, 1998 (TOKYO) -- Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. of Korea told Nikkei Microdevices that it is negotiating with Intel Corp. of the United States to further strengthen the partnership between the two companies in technical fields.
The technical tie-up between Samsung and Intel was arranged in May 1997 for joint development of products based on a new concept of linking personal computers with electric appliances.

Negotiations are now underway for a new area of technical collaboration.

A spokesman for Samsung Electronics denied the validity of a media report in Korea on Feb. 19, that the company is negotiating with Intel on a capital tie-up.

Intel has invested about US$30 million in Samsung Austin Semiconductor (SAS), which operates Samsung's new plant in Austin, Texas.
