Most of the southern part of the Fraser Valley are a flood plain, and Abbotsford and Chilliwack area was built on a drained lake called Sumas Lake.

Building and rebuilding and rebuilding on a flood plain or "dry" lake bed is just stupid. Tulare Lake in California was another recent example as it refilled. Nothing to do with a so call "climate crisis" either..

Floods and wildfires and volcanoes and hurricanes and tornadoes and earthquakes and tsunamis will always happen on this planet, but using common sense awareness about how and where you "set up shop" can certainly lessen one's vulnerability..
