Bill Clinton Features Prominently in Epstein Files Release

The Latest

  • The U.S. Department of Justice has released thousands of documents related to the late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
  • The files include photos of Epstein and his former girlfriend Ghislaine Maxwell, as well as graphic photos of women and redacted material officials believed showed child sexual abuse.
  • Former U.S. president Bill Clinton is the most prominent person in this set of materials and there is little mention of President Donald Trump.
  • Some files are still missing, as the department said it wouldn’t meet Friday’s deadline because of the volume of documents that need to be redacted to protect victims’ identities.
  • Being named or pictured in the Epstein files doesn’t, on its own, indicate misconduct or wrongdoing

Plenty on Clinton, nothing on Trump

This document dump is only a small subset of what the DOJ has at its disposal — and the most prominent person featured in this initial release is former president Bill Clinton.

There are photos of Clinton with Epstein in Brunei, Thailand, Morocco, and on various private jets, according to records contained in this release. It's difficult to ascertain what exactly the two were doing on these trips — there is little context around these photos, but at least some of them feature what appear to be young women.

Clinton has not been accused of wrongdoing by survivors of Epstein's abuse, and he has denied knowledge of the late financier's sex offences.

By comparison, I haven't seen any reference to President Donald Trump in these files, although I’m still sorting through this trove of pictures and data.

The Trump-Epstein relationship was, at one time, quite close. According to Trump’s account, the two had a falling out in the mid-2000s.
