SAN RAMON, Calif. —Several small earthquakes struck in the East Bay near San Ramon on Friday evening, according to data from the U.S. Geological Survey. The quakes also impacted regional transit service.

The first, and so far the smallest, happened around 7:40 p.m. That quake was a 2.5 magnitude.

The next earthquake, around eight minutes later, jumped up to a 4.0 magnitude, data shows.

As of 8:15 p.m., a magnitude 3.8 quake, another magnitude 4.0 quake, a magnitude 3.1, and a magnitude 2.9 also followed.

Bay Area Regional Transit said it is needed to run service at reduced speeds to conduct safety track inspections. At 8:41 p.m., the agency said its inspections had concluded. However, it noted that residual delays of up to 20 minutes could be expected systemwide.

Each of the quakes ranged between four and five kilometers southeast of San Ramon.
