I loved wankels when they came out. A high revving, smooth as butter engine is attractive to a gearhead. Not to mention, small and light for the power output. But, as time went on and I learned about the weaknesses...

Given the close association of Mazda with wankels in the US, this strikes me more as a marketing thing than a good solution.

After buying a brand new 1981 Rx7 and driving it for a few years, I would never buy another Mazda again. It was a POS, Not fast not that great of a handling car, poor quality of material in the interior, lousy paint job. When I turned the aircon on you could feel the drop in power. I did my own maintenance back then as I did not trust dealerships, I remember each spark plug was 8 bucks, the only thing the Rx7 was good for, the ladies liked it
