The well of stupidity is deep. Cyril Kornbluth wrote a novel called "The Marching Morons" back in the 1950s. In the SF world, it proved to have some influence. Much like the armor and props from Starship Trooper references keep popping up. Robocop stole from it and Idiocracy ran with the theme. Allegedly, he was inspired by that meme of the endless line of marching Chinese that grows ever longer because they breed faster than they can march. The same is true of the products of the shallow end of the gene pool. Cyril had a habit of writing what he thought was satire. In The Space Merchants, he had the Soviet Union collapsing because of Western advertising for consumer goods created so much demand... Which is kind of what happened.
