Can the Islamic State still become a spoiler in the new Syria?
A deadly attack on US troops has raised questions about the Islamic State's potential to destabilise Syria's post-Assad transition

Can the Islamic State still become a spoiler in the new Syria?

Since the Syrian regime is made up of Al Qaeda and the Islamic State offshoot of Al Qaeda, it's difficult to say that the government forces were penetrated by Islamic State. As with the suicide bombing against CIA officers in the training base for militants in nearby Jordan, there is going to be an occasional blowback. There are blurred lines between Al Qaeda, Islamic State, the Syrian regime, U.S., and Israel as they were all in on using the mercenaries to defeat Assad along with ethnic cleansing of the Alawites. The Alawites are a sect of Shia Muslim who are often targeted by Islamic State around the world. Saudi Arabia, Qatar, an UAE are also major financiers of Al Qaeda and IS.
