Are any of the shorts out there telling me you weren't blown over by the lead AMZN has in sales over Barnes & Nobles website according to the latest figures?

Obviously, AMZN has a head start. That doesn't mean they will win the race. I'll bet on the hounds over the fox.

Amazon.com has ... many inherent advantages based on their differing business model.

And these are? Lack of real estate? Is that an advantage? Seems to me that bricks and signs make the all important brand name more visible and since the stores make money, that's like free brand identity for the online business. Also, aren't multiple channels for selling your goods generally better than just one. Lack of inventory? Is that one? Seems to me that having more titles available for immediate delivery is a good thing. Any others? Access to capital? Oops, certainly no lead there.

Amazon may well end up a success, but no amount of "lead" on the competition justifies this valuation. And can you seriously compare AMZN to DELL in illustrating the dangers of shorting based on valuation? Dell has been incredibly profitable for years while its stock was climbing ever higher. I don't think it had a 15 price to sales ratio when it was a money losing, $148 million sales business.

Regards,
Bob

To be fair you should note that the AMZN website has been up and running for several years longer than BKS......you have to give them a chance to get going before you make a comparison like that........
