Good old Al. I believe they call that cognitive dissonance.

SEG clearly cannot exert Intel-like power over this market, even though SEG has the leadership position.

I'm interested in hearing others' thoughts on why SEG can't, with a bunch of new products, use leverage to force some of the other players to lose market share by agressively pushing newer SEG high capacity products. If I were SEG, I would discontinue lower capacity lines and up the ante, making it hard to sell 2.1 GB or below. While many have taken write-downs for these inventories, this would make them virtually useles and speed up the process of right-sizing the inventories. This could especially hurt WDC and Hyundai as they are IMHO vulnerable right now.

Please do not resurrect the "disk drives are like pork bellies" discussion as I'd like to go a little deeper than the commodity angle, which IMO skims only the surface.
