Some historians consider the Cold War the Third World War. covering the era from the end of the Second World War to the fall of the Soviet Union. Regardless of who "won" the war, it would've been safe to assume that the rivalry or war would continue in the following years, using proxies and unconventional war to avoid the fate that befell Nazi Germany in World War 2, especially in the era of nuclear weapons.
