Mo...a guest on CNBC this morning said that it was rumored that CPQ had recently cancelled some Pentium orders with INTC. He said that it was also rumored that they may have filled that need via another supplier. As I heard it, none of this has yet been confirmed. Stephen

In this story, "Compaq Presario PCs Perform Up To 34 Percent Faster Than Competitive Models in Independent Tests" (http://biz.yahoo.com/bw/980226/compaq_1.html),
Compaq touts how much faster their two cheapest systems are than the competition. Both models have AMD CPUs.
That coupled with the recent story about the average new computer price being around $1200 (sorry, couldn't find the link) may indicate that Compaq is selling and/or intends to sell a lot more AMD-powered PCs.
